Update on the Pre-Med Process
My non-traditional path to medicine is far from over. I’m just diving deep into the volunteering and patient care fields and am so excited to share my progress.
The clinical jobs that allow for a flexible schedule but provide patient interaction and medical team care are somewhat difficult to come by. I struggled for months searching and applying for positions that would meet all of my desired requirements. While I did obtain an Certified Nursing Assistant license in Florida, my interests evolved once I moved to Maryland. After tedious application processes and a jobless drought, I finally got an interview that was a perfect fit. I can now say that I’ll be starting as an operating room assistant and a periop Coordinator at a Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland. There are other options for gaining observation hours, but this I feel will be a perfect fit for my interests.
Another exciting change in my life will be the time that I dedicate to serving others. I’ll soon be starting as a Clinic Coordinator with the American Red Cross at a local Military care clinic! I have always had an appreciation for caring for others, and now I will be able to put my efforts toward a community that is so embedded in my life. I’m ready to see my passion put to work in serving others!
So much! I’m so far from finished and that’s a good thing. My focuses will be gaining volunteer and clinical hours while preparing for additional physician shadowing opportunities. I’ll be sure to document along the way!
